Two decades after Rito Yuuki first stumbled into an accidental alien engagement, To Love-Ru is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a brand-new one-shot chapter. The 25-page, full-color story — written by original creator Saki Hasemi and illustrated by Kentaro Yabuki — will run in Jump GIGA 2026 SUMMER, hitting shelves on August 17.
Two Decades of Rito and the Girls of Sainan
To Love-Ru debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump back on April 24, 2006, chronicling shy high schooler Rito Yuuki's chaotic life after alien princess Lala Satalin Deviluke crash-lands into his bathtub — and his world. The original series ran until 2009 across 162 chapters and 18 volumes, and its sequel, To Love-Ru Darkness, continued the story in Jump Square from 2010 to 2017. Between the two series, the franchise has sold well over 16 million copies and spawned multiple anime seasons, OVAs, and specials.
Yabuki has marked earlier milestones with bonus material too — a special story celebrated his 20th anniversary as a professional artist back in 2019, and a one-shot ran on Shonen Jump+ in 2023 to close out the franchise's 15th-anniversary art exhibition. This new chapter continues that tradition, giving longtime fans a fresh dose of the Sainan cast two decades on.
Not the Only Anniversary One-Shot This Issue
To Love-Ru isn't the only series getting an anniversary spotlight in Shueisha's magazines this month. The same summer lineup includes a new one-shot for Tadahiro Miura's Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs, celebrating that manga's 10th anniversary with a 17-page story. Yuuna ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2016 to 2020, was adapted into a 12-episode anime in 2018, and has been licensed in English by Seven Seas Entertainment.
Why It's Worth Celebrating
Twenty years on, To Love-Ru remains one of Shonen Jump's most enduring harem-comedy titles, and the fact that Hasemi and Yabuki are still returning to it — full color pages and all — shows the series still has an audience eager to see Rito, Lala, and the rest of the Sainan crew back in action. Between this milestone and the Kochikame 50th-anniversary one-shot in the same issue window, Shueisha is clearly leaning into nostalgia this season, giving longtime readers plenty of reasons to pick up the latest Jump releases.
